  9. Introduction
  10. ------------
  11. PRDPad is an application which was designed to be used
  12. with Palm ReDirector to extend the capabilities of your
  13. Palm Computing device.  PRDPad allows the Palm Device
  14. to send data to the Desktop printer or Clipboard without
  15. the need to synchronize.  Simply set your Palm Device in
  16. the cradle, load the Memo in PRDPad and print.  No HotSync
  17. required.  It's that easy!

  19. Additionally, Palm ReDirector will allow Palm to Modem
  20. serial communications which allows you to access your
  21. ISP by using your PC's internal/external modem!  While
  22. PRDPad is free to download, Palm ReDirector is shareware
  23. and there is a one-time charge of $19 for your license or
  24. you may try it FREE for 15 days.  Use this version of 
  25. PRDPad (1.8) instead of the one which accompanied the 
  26. Palm ReDirector 2.0.1 archive unless you prefer the 
  27. CASL runtimes.

  29. What's New in this Version
  30. --------------------------
  31. *  All PRD Protocol Tags now are applied to the beginning
  32.    rather than the end of the Loaded Memo.  This makes much
  33.    more sense than applying the Tags to the end of the Memo.
  34.    You can now quickly and easily Load a Memo, Click "Bold"
  35.    or change the Font Size/Style and then print the results!

  37. *  Versions of PRDPad prior to release 1.7 required the CASL
  38.    runtime libraries.  Version 1.7 and above no longer makes
  39.    use of the CASL Libraries as it is compiled code.

  41. Requirements
  42. ------------
  43. To use PRDPad, you must have downloaded and installed
  44. Palm ReDirector Version 2.0.1 (or higher).  This is the
  45. desktop PC resident application that is needed to complete
  46. the tasks which PRDPad will transmit.  Do not install the
  47. PRDPad that accompanies version 2.0.1 as the version within
  48. this archive will completely replace the one included in
  49. version 2.0.1.

  65. Installation Instructions
  66. -------------------------
  67. The following files were once needed for PRDPad but are no longer
  68. necessary if you will be using the version of PRDPad within this
  69. archive.  Unless you have other applications installed that are
  70. dependent on them, you may delete the following from your Palm Device:

  72.     CASLrt_5k.prc
  73.     CASLrt_pro.prc
  74.     MathLib.prc
  75.  
  76. 1)  Save the attached prdpad.prc to your hard drive.
  77. 2)  Double click on the prdpad.prc file name to install.
  78. 3)  Perform a HotSync.
  79. 4)  Set the communications rate on PRDPad to the same used
  80.     in Palm ReDirector.

  84. Possible uses of Palm ReDirector and PRDPad:
  85. -------------------------------------------
  86. 1)  Many users use Palm ReDirector with TGPostman to check their
  87.     home e-mail on their Palm Device while away from home by dialing
  88.     into their personal ISP's.
  89. 2)  Field people may configure the HotSync Manager on their PC to allow
  90.     incoming calls on their home computer.  Using Palm ReDirector on
  91.     a remote PC (say a Laptop or Desktop computer) one can dial-in to 
  92.     their Home computer (Modem Sync) and remote HotSync!
  93. 3)  PRDPad allows anyone to quickly send data from the Palm Device to
  94.     the PC's Printer or Clipboard.
  95. 4)  Developers use Palm ReDirector to test out software that makes use
  96.     of TCP/IP Communications protocols by saving them the purchase of
  97.     a Palm Modem.
  98. 5)  Experiment with the latest communications software for your 
  99.     even without having to buy the more expensive Palm modem.
